So here’s the thing – I adore the sea. There is nothing better than a winter walk on the beach, it soothes the soul.
Finally, after many months, I saw the sea. Walked on my favourite beach, even though the British weather appeared to be stuck somewhere in March instead of May.

Apparently in the Doomsday book it is called Guella (I may have this wrong!) and sits on the North Norfolk coast. The town is really on the edge of a harbour with a long walk to the sandy beach, with a row of beach huts sitting in front of wooded dunes. I honestly love it. I have spent many New Year Day mornings walking down that beach, watching the seals and blasting a hangover to kingdom come.

I hear that the name Wells was due to number of clear springs found in the towns and the Next-The-Sea bit was added to prevent it to be confused with other places called Wells, but for me it is simply the best seaside town to be.
What to do in Wells, sit on the harbour and eat chips. Waste money in the amusements and wander down Staithe Street to explore the little shops. Or go to the pub on the Buttlands, admire the Victorian and Georgian buildings surrounding the town green.

Or, if you are seeing your bestest friends for the first time in many months due to a global pandemic; just walk, take in the beauty around you and generally feel blessed that the end of lockdown might be actually be in sight!

Oh – and if you are there early in the morning, go to Bang In Wells, sit in their sunny courtyard and eat the best poached eggs!
Much love xx
